Wireforms & Assemblies Wireforms can be checked in gauges or on 1:1 drawings and be measured with a height gauge or calipers.  But if the wireform is part of a welded assembly, then that will require measurement also.  This would be impossible to do as before, so we would use a CMM (co-ordinate measuring machine). William Hughes Ltd have CMM’s available in both factories, the largest of the two (see picture) is capable of measuring parts up to 1500x1000x800mm in size and is motorized for accurate measurement and repeatability.  Torsion & Compression Springs Checking springs needs a wide range of equipment available to be done properly. This includes: - Imaging tools, from a basic 10:1 shadow projector to CNC vision systems. - Load testers, supplied by the Institute of Spring Technology (IST) and extremely accurate. - Torque testers, CNC or manual. There are even facilities here for testing and certifying the tensile strength of wire, to make the manufacturing process as accurate as possible.
